Health Unit Clerk

Southern Jersey Family Medical Centers, Inc. is looking for a talented Health Unit Clerk to step into our culturally diverse and fast-paced facility!

Summary: The Health Unit Clerk performs non-clinical tasks and non-direct patient care services by providing day to day clerical support for nurses, medical providers and other health care professionals under the supervision of the Clinical Manager.

Hours: This is a full-time position that requires the ability to work a flexible schedule. General daytime hours Monday - Friday with rotating Saturdays and at least one evening per week.

Position Responsibilities/Duties:

  • Collaborate with physicians, nurses and other healthcare workers to provide managed-care referrals for patients in a timely manner
  • Manage incoming and outgoing patient forms
  • Manage electronic health records
  • Effectively prioritize tasks as needed with consideration to the needs of the patient, clinical staff and other health care professionals
  • Assist with the scanning and retrieval of lab results, radiology reports and consultations
  • Prepares and compiles medical records
  • Review and coordinate the scheduling of ordered tests and procedures.
  • Ensures that patients are connected to the schedulers for follow-up appointments
  • Safeguard and maintain all company records according to State and Federal guidelines
  • Prepares reports requested by the Practice Manager

Experience and Skills:

  • At least 2 years of related work experience in a medical setting
  • Working knowledge of electronic medical records and referrals
  • Knowledge of medical terminology and office procedures
  • Strong computer skills: experience with FileBound and/or SuccessEHS preferred
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • High school diploma or equivalent: Associate’s degree preferred
  • Bi-lingual Spanish preferred
  • Certificate or diploma from a medical training course preferred
